November 11, 19….a while ago
Today’s my birthday — and what a lovely one it’s been so far. Baby Daisy rolled over for the first time. Isn’t that a fun present?
Sorry I haven’t had a chance to blog since my return from South Dakota. Busy, busy. Line edits on the first book in the Sentinel Pass series — and since I FOUND Sentinel Pass (well, the imaginary one in my head, at least) I had to jump right into it before the images disappear. I’m getting older, what can I say?
Here are a couple of shots from my trip. More to follow, if anyone is interested. Like my hero, Cooper, I was surprised by how beautiful, peaceful and inviting the Black Hills are. And I used to live there!
Everyone has to visit the presidents when they go the Black Hills. Gutzum Borgland, the visionary behind this monument, would only agree to do it if it would remain free to the public. It still is, but it costs to park. Hmmm… Still, it truly is impressive. And wooly white mountain goats keep the lawn trimmed. Way cool.
Rapid City has capitolized on the presidential theme by erecting brass statues of all the presidents on its streets. Here’s a shot of me and my cousin, Janie, who was the most wonderful hostess while I was there, with George Washington.

Notice how respectful she was, while I’ve got my arm through his like a date.
Her hubby, Stan, took me hiking to the top of Harney Peak. Four hours, round-trip.
You’ll read about this in my book. What a view!!! At 7, 424′, it’s the tallest place between the Rockies and Switzerland — and you can see 4 states. Really. Although I suggest you pick a day when it’s not 22-degrees wind chill factor. Brrrr…. Here’s a shot of me in the look-out tower. What an amazing structure!
Do I look cold? I was cold.
All for now. Gotta dash. My sis is taking me to a play, then I’m having dinner with my “home-girls” . Life is good.
Deb
