A Golden Quill finalist

I didn’t mention this earlier because I had a lot on my mind. You understand. But the day before my mother’s memorial, the mailman delivered a big fat envelop. I was a little distracted. There was so much to do and I was running on empty. But curiosity got the better of me and I ripped it open.

Inside was an award declaring that BETTING ON SANTA was a finalist in the Desert Rose Chapter’s Golden Quill contest (long contemporary division).

In addition to the pretty certificate, there was a gorgeous pin that makes me smile every time I look at it. I didn’t win the contest. That honor went to my friend and fellow Superromance author Cynthia Thomason, but the timing of this couldn’t have been more perfect. I would have loved to have shared this honor with my mom.

And in a way, I did. The pin will always remind me of how proud she was of me. (Although every time I gave her a haircut, she told me, “You missed your calling.”  )

Here’s the full list of winners and finalists: Desert Rose

Stay cool….

  1. Hi Girlfriend, Deb! No one knows better than I do that Betting on Santa was deserving of its finalist spot in the Golden Quill. (I still love those Texas Hold ‘em guys we created!) I appreciate your mentioning that my book Her Sister’s Child, just edged out “Betting.” I was thrilled when my envelope arrived too.

Wish I were going to San Francisco but it’s not in the cards (get the poker reference?) for me this year. I’ll definitely see you in Washington DC next year!

  6. Thanks, everybody.

Cindy, Thanks for posting your title. I was too lazy to look it up, but it must have been a really special book. And I don’t mean that just because it beat BETTING ON SANTA. Man, I really dug myself a hole this time, didn’t I?

    Anyway, congrats to you, too!!!
