FINALLY FRIDAY: “Chilly Nut Balls” – my made-up recipe

“Chilly Nut Balls”

That’s what I’m calling my simple, easy-to-make, healthy, summer snack recipe.

Reviews from my family: “Chewy. Cool. I like it.” “Not bad. Pretty good, actually.” (from my hubby who spurns anything too nutritional.) “Super yummy. Can I have another?” And my personal fave: “Oh, my! Yes! Yes! Yes!”

DISCLAIMER: I’m a pantster–in writing and in cooking. I work with what I have in the cupboard. I don’t measure, and I never make any dish exactly the same way every time. Consider that my gift to you–you’re not locked into any formal recipe here. Buy yummy stuff you like, experiment with small batches until you find what works for you, and, as long you include chocolate, you can’t go wrong.

Deb’s “sorta” recipe: CHILLY NUT BALLS

In a bowl, combine (measurements are extremely approximate):

1/2 C almond butter

1/4 C Nutella

1/2 C applesauce

Then add to mixture:

1/2 C sunflower seeds (roasted & salted are best, IMO)

1/2 C raisins

3/4 C chocolate chips (you can tell where my priorities are)

Stir together before adding:

1 C oatmeal (I bought the 1-minute kind by mistake and like it best in this recipe). You may need more to give desired consistency. You don’t want them too sticky to form into balls.

Cover and chill one hour, then shape into balls.

Keep refrigerated, serve and snack to your heart’s content.

These have become my late-afternoon pick-me-up after a long day of playing publisher (second book in my BETTING ON LOVE series is almost ready for review). These little gems might be the reason I finally (after a hassle with iBooks) got both of my new WEST COAST HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER Boxed Sets up. Are you a fan boxed sets? Makes sense. You never miss a book, and, of course, save money, too.

Both are available at the vendor of your choice for $7.99.

Books 1-3        Books 4-7

Have a great weekend, my friends! Stay cool. Happy snacking!

Deb

Finally Friday: It’s May already? Seriously?

Don’t get me wrong. May is a great month. It provides a lot to celebrate:

1. The birthday of my second born granddaughter. (Next Friday, she and I will be shopping, getting nails done and going to lunch. Photo op!!)

Turning 12, but already so smart, connected and involved.

2. My late mother’s birthday. She’s been gone almost ten years, but I still miss her.

Deb and Daisy back when big glasses were all the rage.

3. Mother’s Day – since my mom is gone, I celebrate the amazing women in my life who are currently busy raising great kids.

4. The release of the final book in the West Coast Happily-Ever-After series.

Yup, I love May. I’m just not ready for it to be the fifth month of a year that is zooming by too fast. Are you? Any suggestions on how to stay present and not fret about time passing by too fast?

Finally, Friday: Before and After blurbs, Part II

Good Friday morning, all!

I hope you had a productive week! Mine was a bit over-the-top, actually.

We wrapped up Phase 1 of my website remodel.

My web doctor got the basic framework in place then transferred the site to a new server. I asked her to keep things simple so I can do updates myself. The best news is: she fixed my blog! I can upload photos again, which is a BIG deal for me. I love being able to share photos of what’s happening in Debland. 😉

We took a stroll along the Merced River Canyon on Sunday. Lots of icy water in the river and wild flowers galore.

Remember last week, when I shared the information about the blurb-writing webinar? Well, thanks to that class and some great feedback, I managed to tweak the blurb for THAT COWBOY’S FOREVER FAMILY and upload to all vendors for sale.

Here’s the final version and my new cover. What do you think?

Life can change in an instant. The same amount of time it takes for a bullet to kill.
Ranch foreman Tom Butler loved his ex-wife enough to let her go when ambition lured her to L.A., but he never stopped loving their two daughters. His rustic lifestyle in the Central Valley added light years to the distance between them until the day tragedy struck. Tom may not be the dad his daughters know, but he’ll do anything for his family—even ask for help from a beautiful stranger.
Victims advocate Abby Davis’s life needs a major overhaul–just not the kind her newly single boss has in mind. On the verge of quitting, she meets Angela and Heather Butler–and their father. She can’t turn her back on two brokenhearted children and their beleaguered father, but can she do her job without losing her heart in the process?
That Cowboy’s Forever Family is Book 6 in the West Coast Happily-Ever-After series. If you’re a fan of deeply emotional stories that make you smile through your tears, then you can’t miss Debra Salonen’s cowboy dad, his brave little girls and the woman they were meant to love.
Buy That Cowboy’s Forever Family to escape into a warm, happy place where love thrives.

(THAT COWBOY’S FOREVER FAMILY is available on preorder: BUY /releasing wide April 3).

And here is the BEFORE and AFTER version of my blurb for Forever and Ever, By George. I think this cover is one of my favorites!

Even the dog knows the importance of happily-ever-after.

(FOREVER AND EVER, BY GEORGE – Book 7 – West Coast Happily-Ever-After is available on preorder: Buy  , releasing wide May 1.)

This weekend we’re celebrating my son’s birthday and hosting a “Meet and Greet” for a friend who is running for County Supervisor of our District. That sounds like more socialization than I normally see in a month. Wish me luck!
